  • A Fiction Reading with Andrew Mozzina

  • Andrew Mozzina is the author of two novels, Tandem (Tortoise Books, 2023) and Contrary Motion (Spiegel & Grau, 2016), and two short story collections: Quality Snacks (Wayne State University Press, 2014), a finalist for the Flannery O'Connor Award, and The Women Were Leaving the Men (Wayne State University Press, 2007), which won the GLCA New Writers Award. His fiction has appeared in Tin House, Southern Review, Ecotone, The Missouri Review, and elsewhere. His stories have received special citations in Best American Short Stories, Pushcart Prize, and New Stories from the Midwest.

This unique program brings together a vast array of pieces inspired by angels, showcasing both the reverence of classical masters and the spirit of modern folk, country, and rock. With a choir over 100 voices strong and the dynamic accompaniment of the acclaimed local ensemble, the Pam Ortiz Band, “Angels” creates an immersive experience that bridges ancient traditions with modern soundscapes.

    This class is perfect for those new to watercolor or seeking to better understand this fluid and challenging medium. Students will explore essential topics like watercolor paper, brushes, pigments, values, edges, transparency versus opacity, and color theory. Using a limited palette of primary colors, participants will learn to control water and pigments, experiment with transparency and opacity, and apply various techniques to enhance their paintings. Each session includes clear objectives, live demonstrations, and a guided project, with all supplies provided.

  • "Paint the Town" is a 4-day event where artists have the opportunity to lose themselves while exploring the beautiful countryside and capturing it in their paintings. After three (3) days of painting, artists gather back together on Saturday afternoon to frame and hang their finished work in the RiverArts Gallery in preparation for sale at the "Wet Paint Show and Sale". Once the show is complete, the participating artists vote for "Best in Show" and "Best Body of Work."

  • From 9-11am visitors can see and chat with artists painting in Chestertown. At 11am paintings are displayed and for sale in Fountain Park. They are judged by Marcy Dunn Ramsey and the public votes for the Peoples Choice Award. Awards are announced at noon and then the paintings are for sale at the Main Gallery until 3pm.
