Code Home Rule Bill No. 6-2001
A Public Hearing was held on Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at 9:45 a.m.
in the County Commissioners' Hearing Room, County Government Center,
Chestertown, Maryland on Code Home Rule Bill No. 6-2001 which is: an
Act to add new Article III to Chapter 17 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Kent County, Title "Circuit Court" to supplement the per diem
payable by the State to a juror for each day that juror attends court,
pursuant to the provisions of Subsection 6 of Section 8-106 of the Courts
and Judicial Proceedings Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland to
become effective as of July 1, 2001.
County
Commissioners Ronald H. Fithian, Larry B. Beck and W. Michael Newnam
were in attendance as well as members of the media.
Notice of the public hearing was read
into the record by Commissioner Fithian.
Commissioner Fithian advised that the
State will now be funding $15.00 per day per juror. The County will
continue to pay $10.00, per day, totaling juror compensation to $25.00
per day, however, mileage reimbursement will discontinue. Although the
County had the option not to further supplement juror compensation,
the Commissioners elected to do so.
There were no other comments received
on this proposed legislation.
The third reading of this proposed legislation
will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, the next legislative day.
