A Public Hearing was held on Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at 9:45 a.m. in the County Commissioners' Hearing Room, County Government Center, Chestertown, Maryland on Code Home Rule Bill No. 6-2001 which is: an Act to add new Article III to Chapter 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Kent County, Title "Circuit Court" to supplement the per diem payable by the State to a juror for each day that juror attends court, pursuant to the provisions of Subsection 6 of Section 8-106 of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland to become effective as of July 1, 2001.

County Commissioners Ronald H. Fithian, Larry B. Beck and W. Michael Newnam were in attendance as well as members of the media.

Notice of the public hearing was read into the record by Commissioner Fithian.

Commissioner Fithian advised that the State will now be funding $15.00 per day per juror. The County will continue to pay $10.00, per day, totaling juror compensation to $25.00 per day, however, mileage reimbursement will discontinue. Although the County had the option not to further supplement juror compensation, the Commissioners elected to do so.
