Community Development
Block Grant
To Continue The
Housing Rehabilitation Project
A Public Hearing was held on Tuesday, June 25 at 10:00 a.m. in the
County Commissioners' Hearing Room, County Government Center, Chestertown,
Maryland for the purpose of receiving comments on the application for
Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the Maryland
Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to continue an
on-going "Housing and Rehabilitation Project", which is designed to
improve the homes of low/moderate income Kent County homeowners.
County Commissioners Larry B. Beck and W. Michael Newnam were in attendance
as well as, Jack Canan, Housing and Community Development Coordinator,
Kay Pinder-Almen, Administrative Aide, and members of the media. Ronald
H. Fithian, was not in attendance due to his participation in the Maryland
Municipal League conference.
The notice of public hearing was read into the record by Commissioner
Newnam.
Mr. Canan testified that the grant application includes a request
for $194,000.00 for the continuation of rehabilitation projects in the
County. He reported that the funds would assist in the rehabilitation
of seven or eight homes in Kent County. Mr. Canan noted that due to
the expense of incorporating lead paint abatement into the rehabilitation
process, fewer homes would be rehabilitated.
There was no member of the audience that spoke in opposition or support
of this grant application.
Commissioner Newnam and Beck thanked Mr. Canan and Ms. Pinder-Alman
in assisting many citizens in the County and making a positive change
in their lives.
The Commissioners approved a Resolution authorizing the Housing and
Community Development Coordinator to submit the CDBG application as
prepared.
This hearing was taped for reference and adjourned at 10:08 a.m.
