The Academy of Lifelong Learning at Washington College in Chestertown (WC-ALL) is a peer-led, self-supported autonomous department of the College that was created for adults who seek intellectual stimulation without the requirements for academic credit - learning for the joy of learning.
Participants engage with other adults pursuing learning for its own sake without the stress of exams, term papers or grades. The range of courses allows members to review a favorite topic or explore new subject matter, selecting the learning styles and activity levels that most suit their needs. Participation in WC-ALL’s activities may include attending late afternoon classes and Learn-at-Lunch lectures as well as trips and other special events. The core of WC-ALL’s philosophy, the peer-led course system, allows members to share a lifetime of experience or a passionate hobby.
Each College semester the Academy of Lifelong Learning offers two six-week sessions with 12-15 courses each session; approximately 400 Eastern Shore residents become members and register for as many courses as they wish, for one all-inclusive membership fee.
