Thornton Estate, established in 1664, is a quintessential Eastern Shore estate. The magnificient manor house anchors the 325 acre preserved farm minutes outside of Chestertown, Maryland.
Lord Baltimore granted the original patent for Thornton from colonial lands he received from King Charles I of England in the early 17th century. Conveyed to Philip Hopkins in 1693, the estate is still owned by his direct descendants. The current manor house --- built in 1815 --- was fully renovated in 2001.
With 5 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, Thornton is the perfect setting for family vacations, executive retreats, girls weekends, and hunter excursions. The property includes 3.5 miles of walking trails, inground pool, fire pit, helipad, stocked pond for catch and release fishing, goose pits and deer stands for hunting. There's also a creek to the Chester River for those who enjoy kayaking.
Children are welcome and pets are allowed with approval by the owner. Small scale events such as corporate meetings, bridal/baby showers, and others may also be considered.
